Mount Vernon golfers solid at Miller Colonial

The Yellow Jackets put together a great stretch of play Saturday in the Kent Miller Colonial Fall Invitational, but a few obstacles remained as the “A” team finished ninth at its home at Hiawatha Golf Course.

Fred Main/News Benchmark Cabinets’ Breanna McCluskey slides safely into home plate as Griffin Insurance pitcher Morgan Yoder (1) attempts to tag her through the dirt and dust Sunday in the championship game of the 16U division of the Mount Vernon Girls Softball League spring tournament at Memorial Park. McCluskey was safe on the play and Benchmark Cabinets won the tournament by beating Griffin twice Sunday.

Benchmark steals 16U softball title

After losing twice to Griffin Insurance in the regular season and then once earlier in the day in the tournament, the odds were stacked against Benchmark Cabinets in the 16U Mount Vernon Girls Softball League City Tournament championship game.
