MOUNT VERNON — Over the last two weeks, six awards were presented by Main Street Mount Vernon. The 2019 Main Street Mount Vernon Awards went through a nomination process in February, but with the Awards Dinner canceled, the Main Street Mount Vernon board of directors made the decision to shine a spotlight on the winning businesses through social media and presenting the awards in person.

Half Baked Café won this year’s Small Business of the Year award. Other nominees included Lashley Training Center and Crickets on South Main.

The 2019 Mid-Sized Business of the Year was awarded to McDaniel CPA. The nominees for this award included The Mount Vernon Grand Hotel and G.R. Smith Hardware.

Stein Hospitality took home the Large Business of the Year award. Other nominees included The Peoples Bank of Gambier and Brenneman Lumber.

Nonprofit of the Year was awarded to The Mount Vernon Music and Arts Festival. Other nominations included HopeNow Furniture Bank and Knox County Memorial Building.

The Community Pride award recipient was Williams Flower Shop for their continued efforts with the flower baskets down Main Street. This award is presented to the business that has contributed to the overall beauty and aesthetic of downtown Mount Vernon. The Mount Vernon Grand was also in the running for the Community Pride Award.

The final award was presented to Heather Brayshaw for the 2019 Spirit of Heritage Award. This award is given to the volunteer whose commitments of time and energy made downtown successful during 2019.
