MOUNT VERNON — A driver in Tuesday’s Ohio 13 two-vehicle car crash is in critical condition at the Grant Hospital ICU.
Ruth Kearns, 69, Fredericktown, was eastbound on Waterford Road when she reportedly failed to yield at a stop sign at the Ohio 13 intersection. Kearns’ 2003 Buick LeSabre was struck on the side by a southbound 2004 Honda CRV, driven by Robert Gardner, 61, Lucas.
Kearns was transported by medical to Grant Hospital for serious injuries. Kearns is currently in critical condition.
Gardner was transported to the Knox Community Hospital. Gardner was treated and transferred to another facility.
Both vehicles were totaled in the collision. Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the accident. Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Fredericktown EMS, Fire and Police departments, Air Evac and Ohio Department of Transportation were also on scene to assist.
This was one of the two Ohio 13 car crashes Tuesday. Another crash occurred less than two miles south at the Sparta-Ohio 13 intersection. Glenn Buck, 79, Mount Vernon, was driving a 2013 Buick Regal northbound on Sparta Road in Fredericktown. Buck reportedly failed to yield at the stop sign at the Ohio 13 intersection and was rear-ended by a southbound 2013 Freightliner Cascadia truck, driven by Melvin Hinton, 49, Mansfield.
Buck was transported to OhioHealth Mansfield and is currently in stable condition. No serious injuries or hospitalization were reported of Hinton.
Both crashes are under investigation by the patrol.
