MOUNT VERNON — Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to two crashes on Ohio 13 on Tuesday. The two crashes happened within an hour on the same route, however, were not related to one another.
At approximately 11:40 a.m., Glenn Buck, 79, Mount Vernon, was driving a 2013 Buick Regal northbound on Sparta Road in Fredericktown. Buck failed to yield at the stop sign on the Sparta-Ohio 13 intersection and was rear-ended by a 2013 Freightliner Cascadia truck, driven by Melvin Hinton, 49, Mansfield, going southbound on Ohio 13.
Buck was transported to OhioHealth Mansfield. No serious injuries were reported by Hinton. No citations were issued at this time.
At approximately 12:16 p.m., another crash occurred less than two miles north at the Waterford Road and Ohio 13 intersection. Ruth Kearns, 69, Fredericktown, failed to yield at a stop sign and was struck in the side of the vehicle by Robert Gardner, 61, Lucas. Kearns was driving eastbound on Waterford Road in a 2003 Buick Lesabre and Gardner southbound on Ohio 13 in a 2004 Honda CRV.
Both vehicles were destroyed in the crash. Kearns suffered serious injuries and was transported by medical helicopter to Grant Hospital in Columbus. Gardner was also transported to the Knox County Community Hospital for injuries.

No citations were issued at this time.
Both incidents are currently under investigation.
OSHP Sgt. Cody Holloway said that although the two crashes both involved failure to yield, it is not a normal occurrence at either stop sign.
