MOUNT VERNON — Dorothy J. Arquilla, 95, of Mount Vernon passed away peacefully around 5 a.m. on Monday morning, Jan. 13, 2020, at home surrounded by her family. She was born on July 8, 1924, in Mount Vernon to the late William Edward and Violet (Stringfellow) Gilbert.

Dorothy was a member of the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church. She loved camping, gardening and playing cards.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Nancy Arquilla and Sandy Arquilla Ankrom of Mount Vernon; a granddaughter, Cory White; and Chris Moore of Mount Vernon.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Arquilla; two sons, Michel Joseph and Bradley Dean Arquilla; sisters, Louise Earnest, Mary Ellen Earnest and Doris Bonette; and a brother, William E. Gilbert.

The family will receive friends from noon until the time of a funeral service at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon with Rev. Jerry Ernst officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
