Luminaries light the sidewalks Sunday in the historic area of East High Street in Mount Vernon. Residents set out hundreds of luminaries on both sides of the street, from McKenzie Street all the way through South Rogers Street.

Members of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 147, and 30 Knox county kids were able to shop for some new clothes and toys. The FOP, along with the Salvation Army, with an additional $5,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation, were able to increase the number of children in this year’s event. Officers from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Danville, Mount Vernon and Fredericktown police departments and Municipal Court and Common Pleas probation officers hit the aisles with the kids.

RealLiving Home Team donated 64 bicycles Monday to the Salvation Army. The bikes were purchased using revenues from a portion of homes sold. Fourteen bikes will also be donated to the Newark and Mansfield area Salvation Army branches. Luminaries glow along the waterfall at Honey Run Park during the Knox County Park District’s Fire and Ice event held Saturday at Millwood park. A total of 600 luminaries were spread out through the park between the waterfall and the river.

The Knox County Board of Realtors presented checks to three local organizations Thursday during their annual Christmas Party at the Gallagher Center. Here, Holly Bredefeld, left, of the Mount Vernon Fire Department and Toys-For-Tots accepts a check donation of $300 from Realtors President Gina Oswalt. The Realtors also donated more than 150 toys. Two more donations, one for $400, was presented to the MVFD and another $300 as well as food items to Food for the Hungry.

Kenyon College Theta Delta Phi Sorority hosted the 29th Annual Shawn Kelly Memorial Holiday Party at the Kenyon Athletic Center on Tuesday and Wednesday. 170 Head Start families were able to participate in games, ornament-making and visit with Santa.

The Knox County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 147 held their annual toy drive Saturday at various retail stores along Coshocton Avenue in Mount Vernon. Members of the Sheriff’s Office, Fredericktown, Danville and Mount Vernon police departments, along with local probation officers collected toys and monetary donations for the Salvation Army.
