ASHLAND – Carol Lynn Barnes, 58, of Ashland passed away Wednesday morning, Dec. 11, 2019, at Kingston of Ashland.

She was born Oct. 31, 1961 in Ashland, the daughter of Charles W. Barnes and the late Janice E. (Mumper) Barnes.

Carol graduated from Dale Roy School in 1982. She was employed at the Dale Roy Sheltered Workshop for many years, retiring in 2016. Carol was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Carol competed in the International Special Olympics for bowling in 1987 where she has won many gold medals over the years. She was a lover of music and plays, having traveled to Toronto, Canada to see Phantom of the Opera. Carol always enjoyed helping her family around the house.

She is survived by her father, Charles (Melody) Barnes of Ashland; two sisters, Kimberly Bockoven of Waco, TX and Karen (David) Baker of Bingham Farms, MI; and two nephews, Benjamin (Jacqueline) Bockoven and Nick (Lauren) Bockoven.

In addition to her mother Jan, Carol was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Dr. Earl O. and Eva (Nyhart) Mumper; her paternal grandparents, Leland and Martha (Strobel) Barnes; and a brother-in-law, Bill Bockoven.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 16, at 10:30 a.m. in the Denbow-Gasche Funeral Home with Reverend Tom Snyder officiating. Following the service, a meal and time of fellowship will be in the Legacy Room of the funeral home. Interment will be in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery near Danville. Friends may call Sunday, Dec. 15, from 2-4 p.m. in the funeral home.
