MOUNT VERNON — Two people were named the “Behind the Scenes Person” at Mount Vernon’s board of education meeting Monday night.

Amanda Filler was named for Wiggin Street Elementary and Moreen Helser was named for Mount Vernon High School. Filler is a very active parent at Wiggin Street being involved with everything from the collection of bottle caps to showing up at 6:30 a.m. to help with Veterans Day. Helser is a liaison for the high school who was described as someone who left no stone unturned when it comes to helping students.

The board also heard about two of the three new programs at the high school. Ken Wiles, buiness/technology teacher, is piloting a nationwide GenYes program that focuses on training students to become student technology leaders. This is done by engaging in things from Chromebook repairs to helping with software and technological support. Glenn Peyton, social studies teacher, has been working with students to bring back video announcements to the high school.

The board also approved:

•The proposal to start accepting bids for interior design services for the athletic facility.

•Various board polices, personnel, and free facilities requests.

•Various donations including two memorial books donated to the high school library.
