MOUNT VERNON — Candidates for Mount Vernon Mayor and the Mount Vernon 3rd Ward Council seat will debate Thursday night at Mount Vernon Nazarene University.

The debate, co-hosted by the Mount Vernon News, WNZR and KnoxPages.com, will be held at MVNU’s Jetter Hall, Room 133, beginning at 7 p.m.

The candidates for mayor — Matt Starr, Republican, and Wayne Link, Independent — will begin the evening at 7 p.m. Each will have an opportunity for opening and closing statements and be asked a series of questions by the three media organizations.

The 3rd Ward race debate will begin at approximately 10 minutes after the mayor’s debate ends. Democrat Andrea White and Republican Tammy Woods will be given the same opportunities as the mayor’s race.

The event is open to the public.
