MOUNT VERNON — A loud boom or explosion was reported on Sunday just before 8:30 p.m. in the north end of Mount Vernon.

According to 911 calls, over a dozen residents reported a loud bang all over the north and eastern side of the city. Several callers described the noise like a firework or gunshot, and a West Curtis Street resident reported that their house was shaken. Dispatch told callers police were conducting patrols in the area.

Mount Vernon Police Department Public Information Officer Matt Haver didn’t have any information on the incident on Monday morning. No further information was available, as of press time.
