MOUNT VERNON — Pamela M. Owen, 67, passed away at home on Sept. 30, 2019, after a prolonged illness, surrounded by family and loved ones.
She was born in Mount Vernon, growing up on her family’s farm in Gambier in her youth. She earned her doctorate at Ball State University in Indiana and was a Professor of Early Childhood Education at Mount Vernon Nazarene University for 23 years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde & Bonnie Norris.
Pamela is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Dean Owen; children, Meredith (Jason) Reece and Mark (Kamela) Owen; brothers, John (Karen) Norris, Timothy (Heidi) Norris; grandchildren, Annarose, Adeline, Fiona, Carter, Riley and Preston; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She enjoyed a life of teaching, world travel, art, photography and nature. It was her wish to bring friends and family together in the celebration of her life, around the creation of nature, at the Kokosing Nature Preserve, 10620 Quarry Chapel Road, where the service of natural burial will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 10 a.m. There will be a fellowship luncheon, with details to be announced after the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Kokosing Nature Preserve, 306 Gaskin Ave., Gambier, or Hospice of Knox County, 17700 Coshocton Road, Mount Vernon.
