MOUNT VERNON — A registered sex offender has been charged with giving meth to a 17-year-old girl and possessing nude photos of her.

James L. Darby, 51, Mount Vernon, was indicted by the Aug. 12 grand jury on charges of corrupting another with drugs, a second-degree felony, illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material, a fourth-degree felony, and failure to register as a sexual offender, a fourth-degree felony.

The charges stem from March and July of this year. According to Knox County Prosecuting Attorney Chip McConville, Darby was allegedly providing the girl with meth and had nude pictures of her on his cellphone.

Darby was designated a sex offender after being convicted in 2011 of a misdemeanor sexual offense in Pennsylvania. The prior conviction also involved a minor, McConville said.

McConville said Darby had registered his address as required with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. However, he did not report multiple Facebook accounts, which is also required when registering.

The grand jury further indicted a Mount Vernon woman on two counts of assault, a fifth-degree felony, for allegedly assaulting two probation officers.

Nichole M. Beck, 40, is charged with striking Mount Vernon Municipal Court Probation officers Susie Eisel and Julie Fisher July 26 while she was at the probation office. According to McConville, Beck attempted to leave in the middle of a meeting with probation officers. Eisel and Fisher tried to stop her, and Beck struck both officers with her purse, bruising both women. Fisher eventually subdued Beck using a Tazer, McConville said.
