MOUNT VERNON — The Salvation Army of Mount Vernon will be opening their doors to serve as cooling centers and a place to provide shelter from the 90-plus degree temperatures throughout the area. With excessive temperatures expected over the next week, The Salvation Army wants to offer a safe place for community members looking to get out of the heat.

The Salvation Army Mount Vernon Ohio Corps, 206 E. Ohio Ave., Mount Vernon, will be available to the public as a Cooling Center:

•Friday, July 19, noon to 3 p.m.

FREDERICKTOWN — The community room at the Fredericktown Police Department is now open and will be throughout the weekend for use as a cooling center. The air conditioning is on and bottled water is available if you need a break from the heat.
