MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon Fire Department is accepting new fans at the fire station, 200 West Gambier Street in Mount Vernon.

Every summer, many of our neighbors will suffer in small, stuffy apartments and houses with no retreat from the scorching heat.

Children with asthma, the elderly with respiratory issues, and people burdened by illness will need help escaping the summer heat.

In accordance with state law, the fans provided through charitable distributions must be new. Used fans cannot be accepted as they are considered a fire hazard.

The fans will be distributed by Interchurch Social Services.
