BELLVILLE — Robert Q. Alexander, 95, of Bellville, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born Feb. 20, 1924, in Holland, Missouri, the son of Granvil and Anna Ione (Chapman) Alexander.

Robert proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed on the U.S. Preston, U.S. Atlantic and U.S. McKinley. He retired in 1988 after more than 40 years as a steel worker for the Columbus Local of United Steel Workers of America.

He is survived by his children, Ronald Q. Alexander of Fredericktown and Rena K. Alexander of Mansfield; two grandchildren, Brian (Noelle) Alexander and Bethany Alexander; two great-grandchildren, Joshua Alexander and Jennifer Alexander; and a sister, Maxine Norton.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Diane (Issler) Alexander; two sisters, Mabel Irene Parks and Betty Jane McDaniel; and two brothers, John Corbin Alexander and Wilton Eugene Alexander.

A private graveside service with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Chesterville.
