MOUNT VERNON — A Mount Vernon man was sentenced to prison time after he was found guilty in three cases that all concluded in the same hearing in the Knox County Court of Common Pleas on Thursday.
Hubert W. Wells Jr., 40, was given prison sentences of 30 months in one case and 11 months in a second, which he will serve concurrently, in connection to several incidents between March 2016 and February 2019.
Wells was initially indicted on a charge of grand theft of a vehicle on March 8, 2016, and was sentenced to a three-year term of community control in November of the same year.
He then violated the terms in March 2018 after he failed to report to his supervising officer and then violated it again after he pleaded guilty on charges of theft and breaking and entering, both fifth-degree felonies, on Feb. 4, 2019, and the third-degree felony of tampering with evidence on May 9, 2019.
He was given three years of community control in one case and prison terms for the other two.
In other cases in the Knox County Court of Common Pleas:
•Christopher Huffman, 32, was sentenced to 11 months in prison and has to register as a Tier 2 sex offender after being found guilty of attempted sexual conduct with a minor, a fourth-degree felony.
•Michael L. Wallace, 32, was given two consecutive 11-month sentences on two counts of theft, both of which are fifth-degree felonies, after he was found guilty on both charges May 9. He was also ordered to pay restitution of almost $3,500 and was given three years of post-release control after his nearly two-year prison sentence.
•Shaun Ward, 33, changed pleas from not guilty to guilty in all of his three cases in the same hearing. After three separate incidents, he was indicted on fifth-degree felonies of breaking and entering, aggravated possession of drugs and possessing criminal tools; another aggravated possession of drugs along with obstruction of official business, a misdemeanor of the second degree and one charge of theft, a felony of the fifth degree. The maximum sentence for each of the fifth-degree felonies is between six and 12 months in prison and a fine of $2,500. His sentencing date for all of the charges is Aug. 1.
