MOUNT VERNON — Join the Knox County Park District for Nature Camp and explore animal tracks, look for and listen for birds, study plants, learn to compost and recycle, make edible soil and explore with the Enviroscape watershed model.

The Knox County Park District invites children ages 8-12 to attend camp July 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Thayer Ridge Park. Parents may drop their child off and return for pickup at 12:30 p.m. Pack a lunch and upon pickup plan to eat at the park with your child/granchild.

The camp is designed to engage children in outdoor fun to create pathways for lessons in nature, conservation and ecology. The camp will include hands-on stations allowing the children a 30-minute activity on various nature-related topics. Research shows that children who play outside are more physically active, more creative in their play, less aggressive and exhibit better concentration.
