The Community Band of Mount Vernon kicks off the Summer Music Garden series June 23.

MOUNT VERNON — The Community Band of Mount Vernon will kick off the seventh season of the popular Summer Music Garden series June 23 with their talented group of local musicians.

Led by Karen McClellan, this will be a fun and rousing concert, with demonstrations of the various instruments inspiring young folks to learn to play. SPI will complement this by having instrument making as an activity.

The concert will be at the Knox County Career Center’s Children’s Garden.
For more information, visit the Facebook page, www.facebook.com/MTVernonCommunityBand.

July 21 — Kari Thomas Kovick will delight everyone with her charming and fun songs for children. Kari comes all the way from Floyd, Virginia where she spend her time making music with and for children. She dances with them, plays games and leaves everyone smiling and singing. SPI will have an activity based on color to complement this colorful performance. Visit Kari’s website www.heartofthechildmusic.com for more information.

August 11 — Kare Strong finishes our season with her songs about nature and love. Kare’s first CD is called River of Love, and that title sums up her music and personality. There is kindness and love in every song! Kare’s charming song “So Many Shades of Brown” is the basis for SPI’s activity around the color brown. Come and see what happens! Visit her website www.karestrongmusic.com for details.
All concerts are held in the Children’s Garden behind the Knox County Career Center on Sundays: June 23, July 21 and August 11, and begin at 4 p.m. Bring a chair or blanket and a picnic meal or snack; bottled water is provided.

These concerts are multi-generational and encourage all to enjoy the outdoors and the beauty of the hidden gem of a garden, to hear and see live music and to partake of a bit of science as well.

Visit www.summermusicgarden.com for more details.
