Wednesday evening, May 22, Mount Vernon High School staff, community members and the Knox County Foundation came together to honor students with presentations of awards of recognition and announcements of the scholarships they have received.
Collin Beltz, a first grader at East Knox Elementary, read 676,873 words this school year, far surpassing the required 150,000 words required to secure his place in Kevia Calkins’ 1st Grade Reading Hall of Fame.
J.D. Orr got the call Tuesday every baseball player dreams of.
Orr’s call came from the Miami Marlins, who drafted the Mount Vernon graduate and Wright State baseball player in the 10th round of the Major League Baseball draft.
