MOUNT VERNON — Robert A. “Bob” Hamstead, 77, of Mount Vernon formerly of Charleston, WV, passed away Wednesday morning, May 15, 2019, at Knox Community Hospital with his caring family by his side. He was born May 14, 1942, in Clarksburg, WV, to the late David S. and Ruth (Talbott) Hamstead.

Bob honorably served his country in the Air Force, stationed in Germany. He retired from Amherst Industries, where served as the company Treasurer. Bob was a member of the Odd Fellows in Charleston and the Sons of the American Revolution in Mount Vernon. He enjoyed cooking, but most of all Bob loved to spend time with his family.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Janet (Myers) Hamstead, whom he married on Jan. 6, 1968; children, Jamie (Michael) Strait of Mount Vernon and Seth (Mary Bess Hart) Hamstead of New Orleans, LA; grandchildren, Talbot and Arden Hamstead; step granddaughter, Briean Strait of Mount Vernon; step great-grandson, Logan Armstrong of Mount Vernon; brother, David W. (Nancy) Hamstead of Frederick, MD; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, in the Greenwood Cemetery, 1526 National Road, Wheeling, WV, with Military Honors provided by the United States Air Force.
