Geoff Cowles/News Mount Vernon’s top singles player, Matt Dineen, jumps to serve during a match in the Ohio Cardinal Conference tournament Saturday at Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s Ramser Courts. Dineen finished third overall in leading the Jackets to a third-place finish as a team.

The Ohio Cardinal Conference Tennis Tournament, held at Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s Ramser Courts on Saturday, turned into a battle for the top spot between the Lexington Minutemen, who defeated the Ashland Arrows in the championship matches in all singles and doubles brackets.

Fred Main/News Former Mount Vernon High School and Mount Vernon Girls Softball League standout Madi Drabick throws out the ceremonial first pitch to open the MVGSL season Saturday at Memorial Park. Drabick is currently playing softball at Ohio Wesleyan University and still finds time to volunteer with MVGSL. Teams and players from six different age divisions, as well as all-star teams, were recognized during the ceremony.
