The Joe Cocanour Unit 500 of the American Legion selected Evelyn to be this year’s Poppy Girl. She is the daughter of Anthony and Emily Hunter of Fredericktown. Her grandparents are Ruth Shelhorn, deceased, and Gale Hollis, Jeff and Ursala Hunter. Evelyn’s great-grandfather served in World War II as a Marine corporal. Her great-grandfather Oscar Hollis also served in World War II as a private first class.Poppy Days are Saturday, May 10 and Sunday May 11 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Fredericktown Bell Store and Fredericktown branch of First Knox National Bank. All funds raised will go to veterans in need.
