The Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two vehicle fatal traffic crash. The fatal crash occurred at approximately 10:10 p.m. In HilliardTownship, Knox County.

Kevin R. Burchett, 22, Worthington was driving a silver 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt eastbound on US Route 36. Louis F. Wild, 60, Mount Vernon was driving a maroon Dodge Ram westbound on US Route 36. Mr. Burchett failed to negotiate a curve and drove off the right side of the roadway into a ditch. Mr. Burchett’s vehicle continued back onto the roadway, went left of center and was struck by Mr. Wild’s vehicle. Mr. Burchett was pronounced deceased at the scene. Mr. Wild was transported by MedFlight to Grant Medical Center with incapacitating injuries.

Mr. Burchett was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Mr. Wild was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Drugs are a suspected factor in this crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and the Central Ohio Joint Fire District an EMS.

The crash remain under investigation by the Mount Gilead Patrol Post.
