MOUNT VERNON — The 2019 Knox County Mock Crash demonstration that was scheduled for April 30 at the Knox County Fairgrounds has been canceled, according the Fredericktown Police Department.

FPD Patrolman Ronny Flynn said the event was canceled because of the recent car accident on Old Mansfield Road that killed a 19-year-old Fredericktown man and injured a 17-year-old student.

The event is organized to encourage safe driving practices around the time of prom and graduation. It would have simulated the cause and results of a crash as well as the response of emergency services in front of a group of county area students. The demonstration would have involved multiple law enforcement and rescue personnel from Mount Vernon and Fredericktown, among others.

The event will not be held at all this year and will be rescheduled for spring of 2020.
