MOUNT VERNON — Award-winning children’s author and illustrator Lisa Papp will be visiting Mount Vernon April 4-6, and will be available to sign her books at Paragraphs Bookstore, Friday, April 5, from 6-7 p.m. and Saturday, April 6, from 10:30 until noon. She will be joined by local Golden Retriever therapy dog, Sandy, for both signings.

Papp’s latest book is titled Madeline Finn and the Shelter Dog. This book was inspired by the volunteer work of local Mount Vernon Middle School teacher Trudy Debolt and her students in the WAGS (working dog awareness) program. Debolt and the students go to the Knox County Animal Shelter once a week to read to the shelter dogs. Papp takes that idea and offers a heartwarming exploration of life in an animal shelter in this inspiring and endearing book for young readers eager to help their communities. Papp will visit students at Mount Vernon Middle School and Twin Oak Elementary during her stay in Mount Vernon, and will join the WAGS group at the shelter on Saturday and read to the dogs.

Papp is the author/illustrator of Madeline Finn and the Library Dog, which won the 2017 Children’s Choice Book of the year, 2016 Parents Choice Recommended Book, and has been translated into 23 languages. Papp has received awards for both her writing and illustration, including a 2011 NAPPA Honor Award, 2012 Storytelling Award, and the 2013 PA Keystone to Reading Award.
