Joshua Morrison/News The first preliminary rounds of the 2019 Battle of Books competition was held Tuesday at St. Vincent de Paul and Twin Oak Elementary Schools. Fifth graders from Knox County, Mount Vernon and homeschooled children went through a round-robin style tournament to move on to Thursday night’s final at Mount Vernon High School at 6 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County. Wiggin Street II’s team consisted of Marin Clendaniel, Jamison Major, Evie Brodie, Audrey Tolley and Harrison Sherfy. Wiggin Street I team’s was Mira Bartal, Sala Glandon, Lily Grace, Leila Hartley and Adelle Heinlen. Thursday night’s final will include Columbia I, Dan Emmett, East, Twin Oak, Home School, Pleasant Street, St. Vincent de Paul and Wiggin Street I.
