MOUNT VERNON — John C Blair, Sr., 92, Mount Vernon, passed away Feb. 2, 2019. He was born Jan. 15, 1927, to the late Arthur and Kate (Hawk) Blair.
A 1945 graduate of Mount Vernon High School, John was also a veteran of the U. S. Navy. As a journeyman electrician, John worked for Cooper-Bessemer Corporation, then later for Nestlé in Sunbury, from where he retired.
In his earlier years, John was an accomplished competitive archer, who enjoyed annual hunting trips to Michigan. He was an amazing “Mr. Fix-it” with an uncanny ability to make repairs or create something from nothing. He also enjoyed the many hours he spent working with his model trains, which were in turn enjoyed by his family and friends.
John is survived by his wife of 68 years, Clara ( Newton) Blair; his daughters, Catherine Blair-Wilhelm (Kuhn) of Mount Vernon and Barbara Blair of Atlanta, Georgia; his son, John C. Blair Jr., of Cary, NC; grandsons, Shad Wilhelm of Los Angeles, CA, Chris Kuhn of Philadelphia, PA; and his dear friend, Bill Blanchard, with whom he shared an exact birthdate.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers, Arthur Blair Jr. and Paul Blair.
The family thanks Centerburg Pointe and Hospice of Knox County for their kindness and for the excellent care provided to John. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Knox County.
There will be no service. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
