MOUNT VERNON — The Reverend Tedrow William Dingler, 80, of Mount Vernon, went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday, Feb. 1, 2019, at Knox Community Hospital. He was born Oct. 21, 1938, in Miami, Florida, the son of Iradell and Gertrude (Tedrow) Dingler. Ted earned his Bachelor’s Degree in English from Davidson College in 1959. He later graduated from Union Theological Seminary with a Master’s Degree in Biblical Studies in 1962. He pursued doctoral studies at McCormick Theological Seminary.
Ted was a devoted pastor to churches in Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin before retiring in 1994, while serving a church in Edina, Minnesota. Ted was active in the Democratic Party and MTV Arts in Knox County. He enjoyed reading, theater, classical music and was an avid musician. Ted was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mount Vernon where he sang in the choir. He was a gifted preacher who supplied pulpits at St. Paul’s and Fredericktown Presbyterian Church.
Ted was a gentle man with a kind heart who always found the best in everyone. He adored his family and was the type of man who never met a stranger. He will be dearly missed by his family and numerous friends.
He is survived by his wife, Diane (Mishey) Dingler; his children, Laura (Dick) Jensen of West Chester, Tim Dingler of Hebron, Kentucky; step daughters, Lauren (Jeff) Heffelfinger of Mount Vernon and Elena Reiss of Seattle, Washington; three grandchildren, Jacob (Emily) Jensen, Justin Jensen and Maggie Dingler; a step granddaughter, Olivia Jane Heffelfinger; and a brother, Peter (Elizabeth) Dingler of Miami, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call Friday, Feb. 8, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Parish house. A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, Feb. 9, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 100 E. High St., Mount Vernon, OH 43050.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church or MTV Arts.
