MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon girls basketball coach Doug Savage made it clear to his girls that stopping Johnstown Johnnies’ star forward Paige Cannon was their No. 1 mission on Tuesday evening.

The host Yellow Jackets went out in the inaugural Colonial City Classic tournament final and held her to 19 points on their way to a 51-32 win at The Hive.

The Jackets were led by Rachel Parks, who nearly matched Cannon’s output with 17 points of her own. Along with her, teammate Sammy Cunningham dropped in 15. Mount Vernon also got a big game from center Taylor Gregory, who had a double-double, scoring 13 points and pulling down 13 rebounds — numbers that proved to be bad luck for Johnstown.
