MOUNT VERNON — The Freedom Center, a local counseling and drug prevention service, is on the lookout for a local physician who is willing to undergo training to prescribe the kind of drugs that treat opioid addiction.

Executive Director Jeffrey Williams said his organization had contacted about three or four doctors to gauge interest on receiving the necessary training, but so far, no luck.

“I think that if we can talk to some local physicians and educate them on our program so that they know that the Freedom Center is a support to their participation in the program … that may make some physicians feel more comfortable about going down that road,” Williams said.
