Second quarter dispels Scots

The Highland Scots boys basketball team was only behind Bloom-Carroll by one point after the first quarter at the MVNUnited Invitational Saturday, but shooting woes allowed the Bulldogs to pull away and win 61-32.

The Utica Redskins girls basketball team was on the road Wednesday and after posting 18 points in the first quarter to lead by five, it rattled off 20 points in the second to hold a commanding halftime lead and cruise to the 66-40 win over the Fredericktown Freddies.

After struggling to keep pace with the visiting Northmor Golden Knights for three quarters, the East Knox Bulldogs (5-1, 3-1 KMAC) surged at the right time, wearing down the Knights and getting a big Knox-Morrow Athletic Conference win at home, 45-37, Tuesday evening.

The Highland Scots limited the Fredericktown Freddies, who averaged 68 points a game coming into the contest, to 40 points Tuesday in a 47-40 Scot win that put Highland in sole possession of the lead in the Knox-Morrow Athletic Conference standings.
