The annual Dixie Days softball tournament in Mount Vernon kicked off Friday, despite the on-and-off rain showers, with pool play action. The tournament has 34 teams across four different divisions.

Mount Vernon Orange falls in opening game

The Mount Vernon Orange 10-and-under All-Stars took the lead with five runs in the third inning in the 9-10 District 5 Little League tournament in Cambridge Tuesday, but Guernsey County Green scored seven times in the fourth and fifth innings to defeat Orange, 13-10.

After a rocky first game against Cambridge on Friday night, the Mount Vernon 12-and-under Little League All-Stars turned things around in the winner-takes-all championship game, sealing the win 11-0 to earn a spot at state.
