Joshua Morrison/News Just before 10 a.m. Friday, the Mount Vernon Fire Department was dispatched to Simmons Church Road, Mount Liberty, to the report of lines down. A tree had fallen across Dry Creek, pulling down cable and telephone lines. A member of the Knox County Highway Department removed the tree from the roadway.

Joshua Morrison/News Mount Vernon first responders stabilize one of the injured after a car crash that occurred this morning near the Tilden Avenue and Sandusky Street intersection. Two vehicles, a gold Chevrolet Cruze and a tow-truck were involved. Two people were transported to Knox Community Hospital by Mount Vernon and Fredericktown EMS. No further information was available at press time. Mount Vernon Police Department is investigating.

Joshua Morrison/News Mount Vernon Police and Fire departments responded to a crash on Ohio 13 near Upper Fredericktown Road on Wednesday afternoon. According to the Highway Patrol, Leah Parker, 26, Mount Vernon was traveling southbound on Ohio 13 when she collided with Roger Stricker, 70, Mount Vernon. The investigation is ongoing.

Joshua Morrison/News The Mount Vernon City Water and Wastewater Department fixes a water main break on Edgewood Road, between Oak St. Extension and Ohio 229, Tuesday evening. It is unknown what caused the line to break, but it did cause collateral damage to smaller lines in the area. The road was closed at 10 a.m., and crews were still working to fix the line at 7 p.m. The line is buried about 8 feet beneath the road surface. A “precautionary” boil advisory is in effect for the surrounding areas. Those who experienced a loss of service or pressure should follow advisory procedures.
