FREDERICKTOWN — Jane Vivian (Carr) Duston, age 96, of Fredericktown, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019, at the Country Club Retirement Campus. She was born Sept. 22, 1922, in Lakewood, the daughter of George Paul and Della Blanche (Chilcott) Carr.
Jane previously worked at the Alcove restaurant, cooked for the Derrick Motel and eventually retired in 1987 after 16 years as a Dietician for Mercy Hospital and Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
Jane and her late husband, Gerald, served as Matron and Patron of the Knox County Children’s Home from 1948 to 1956. They took great pride with keeping in touch with “their kids” over the years even after they left the home.
Jane was an active member of the Fredericktown United Methodist Church for over 60 years where she taught Sunday school, belonged to the Tru-Lo-So Class, Joy Circle, United Methodist Women, Pastoral Relations Committee and Visitation Committee. Her passion for gardening led to her 38 years as a member of the Fredericktown Garden Club. She also belonged to the former Washington Club, Golden Times Club and Westside Club. Jane also served for the Knox County Habitat for Humanity and was a Cub Scout den mother for many years.
Jane enjoyed baking, cooking, food preservation, sewing, embroidery, quilting, antiquing, geneology, scrapbooking and doing her daily devotions. Jane also enjoyed writing letters and corresponding with family and friends, but most important to Jane was the quality time she spent with them. She was always so proud of her children and grandchildren’s accomplishments over the years.
She is survived by her daughter and caregiver, Cathy (John) Goeppinger of Mount Vernon and Paul (Bonnie) Duston of Cambria, California; four grandchildren, Amy Goeppinger, Craig (Angie) Goeppinger, Nicholas (Jenna) Duston, Katelyn Duston; a new great granddaughter, Gabriella Goepinger; two sisters-in-law, Donna Horn and Virginia Duston and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
