FREDERICKTOWN — Floyd O. Ferguson, 83, of Fredericktown, passed away Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019, at his home. He was born July 30, 1935, in Cambridge, the son of Durwood and Bessie (Rankin) Ferguson.
Floyd served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957 and the Army Reserves until 1961. He previously worked for North Electric Telephone Company before retiring after 33 years of employment with Crawford Construction Company in Galion.
Floyd was proud to be known as the handyman that could fix anything. Whether it was electrical, plumbing or automotive, there was always a solution to the problem in Floyd’s mind. He enjoyed “simple” things such as his antique tractors, making homemade ice cream, tapping a tree for maple syrup or collecting honey from his bees. Over the years Floyd and his family spent many days planting and transplanting trees on the family farm. He also enjoyed working in the garden and taking care of his flowers and vegetables.
In his earlier years, Floyd had spent many summer days digging and forming the ponds on his property that he thoroughly enjoyed fishing in or admiring from the bankside. He also liked his horses and trail riding in the area. He previously served as a 4-H advisor for the Hats and Chaps Club. When he was able, Floyd also enjoyed the time he spent with his family traveling and exploring the United States.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather that will be missed by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Marilyn (Nauman) Ferguson; his children, Rachel Morlan of Mount Gilead, Daniel (Ranel) Ferguson of Mount Gilead and David (Kelly) Ferguson of Roseburg, Oregon; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; four sisters, Elsie, Judy, Zera and Lucille.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson, Clint Morlan, and three sisters, Helen, Betty and Louise.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home of Fredericktown, 33 E. College St., Fredericktown, OH 43019, where friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Pastor Derrick Morlan will be officiating.
