MOUNT VERNON — Crunch Out Knox County is a six-week nutrition and activity program that teaches fourth graders about making healthy food choices and getting physical activity everyday. Promoting life-long wellness to help future health problems when it comes to adult obesity. During physical education classes, students learn to use an exercise ball as a fitness tool and are able to take one home to use. The program started in September and went through November 2018.
This year’s program included all 11 elementary schools in Knox County, involving 639 students. The program started in 2013. Students were then asked to complete an essay on the subject of “How I am living healthy.” Classroom, school and county winners were celebrated Saturday, Jan. 12 during a program at the Glenn A. Gallagher Centre, 1451 Gambier Road, in Mount Vernon.
