FREDERICKTOWN — Robert C. “Bob” Vernon, 84, of Fredericktown passed away Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019, at Knox Community Hospital. He was born March 27, 1934, in Mount Vernon to the late Carl and Nancy V. (Debolt) Vernon.

Bob honorably served his country in the Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of the Berean Faith Fellowship Church in Mount Vernon, the Joe Cocanour Post #500 of the American Legion in Fredericktown, the V.F. W. Post 4027 and Post 7671, the Exchange Club and the Thrall Lodge, #170 F. & A.M. Bob was an active member of the Knox County Joint Veterans Council. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians. Bob taught distributive education at Clear Fork High School and retired from the Knox County Career Center where he served as the Adult Director.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Valerie Clark of Newark; his grandson, Tony Carter of Newark; his great-grandson, Coen Carter of Zanesville; brother, Jim (Phyllis) Vernon of Florida; several nieces and nephews; and close friend, Tim Clark of Newark.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Nola Virginia (VanHouten) Vernon on Feb. 4, 2017; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Ryan and Phyllis Antill; brothers, George Sr. and John Vernon; and son-in-law, Richard Clark.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m., Monday, Jan. 14, at the Snyder Funeral Home, 33 E. College St., Fredericktown, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 15, with Pastor Gordy Harmon and nephew, Major David Antill, officiating. Bob will be laid to rest following the funeral service, beside his wife, Nola, in Forest Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veteran Council.

Thrall Lodge will perform a Masonic memorial service following the visitation at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Berean Faith Fellowship Church, P.O. Box 784, Mount Vernon, OH 43050, in Bob’s memory.
