MOUNT VERNON — JoAnn McCann, 83, of Mount Vernon, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. She was born in Johnstown, March 23, 1935, to the late Edwin and Mabel (Gornall) Piper.

JoAnn graduated from Johnstown High School and attended Otterbein College. She worked as an administrative assistant at Cooper Energy Services in Mount Vernon. JoAnn attended Utica Presbyterian Church in Utica, and was the music director there along with playing the piano and organ. She loved playing and listening to music. JoAnn was a member of the Eastern Star and the women’s auxiliary of the Jaycees years ago. She and her husband Ray, enjoyed helping with Junior Miss and the Young Republicans.

She is survived by her daughter, Traci (Howard) Knox; a brother, James (Linda) Piper; brother-in-law, Lynn (Sandy) McCann; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, JoAnn is preceded in death by her husband, H. Ray McCann.

A private family celebration of life service will take place at the Utica Presbyterian Church at a later date.
