GAMBIER — The Kenyon College Athletics Department will host free sports clinics Sunday, Feb. 10, in observance of the annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day. The clinics are open to girls currently in kindergarten through eighth grade who seek to hone their skills or learn a new sport.

Participants will have the opportunity to participate in eight featured sports including basketball, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, track & field and volleyball.

Check-in and welcome for the event will be from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. in the Kenyon Athletic Center (KAC) lobby. The KAC is located at 221 Duff Street in Gambier. Following check-in, the clinics will get underway at 1 p.m. and last until 3 p.m. When the clinics conclude, a reception with snacks will be held and participants will receive certificates. Additionally, there will be a brief presentation about the history of women’s sports and Title IX.

This year marks the 14th that Kenyon celebrates National Girls and Women in Sports Day, honoring female athletes of all ages and encouraging all to participate in athletics and fitness activities. More than 1,000 different events will be taking place across the state and the country.

Congress first proclaimed a National Girls and Women in Sports Day in 1987 as a way to honor the achievements and encourage the participation of girls and women in sports.
