MOUNT VERNON — Laurel C. “Mac” McDonald, age 88, of Mount Vernon passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, at his home with his loving family at his side.

He was born Sept. 18, 1930, in Mount Vernon to the late Burlin and Marie (Zimmerman) McDonald. Mac was a member of Faith Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and coaching baseball. Mac was a veteran serving in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He is survived by his sons, Scott McDonald, Paul (Whitney) McDonald; his daughters, Debbie (Steven) Breland, Tammy (Tony) Cline; Diane (Jim) Van Meter; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mac was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley McDonald; his grandsons, Michael McDonald, Matthew Van Meter; his great-grandson Nicholas Van Meter; his brother, Bobby McDonald; and his sister, Loraine Leach.

Friends may call Wednesday, Jan. 9, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home. A service will follow, beginning at noon, with Pastor Nathan Pierpont officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veteran’s Council, will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
