Joshua Morrison/News The former Central School on East Chestnut Street, Mount Vernon, has been empty since juvenile court system stopped utilizing the facility. A recent study estimates a $3.8 million renovation would be needed to prepare the building for occupancy. Ariel Foundation has committed $2 million toward the project if the commissioners move it forward.

Commissioners hire architect

Knox County Commissioners rotated their leadership positions, assigned themselves to committees, welcomed a new commissioner, and approved architectural fees for the Central School project — all in under a half hour on Thursday.

The Mount Vernon Jackets girls basketball team put up a good fight and trimmed the lead to four points in the third quarter, but was eventually outmatched by the Ohio Cardinal Conference leading Wooster Generals Thursday, 54-38.
