MOUNT VERNON — The sixth-ranked Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s basketball team (11-2, 3-2) hosted the University of Northwestern Ohio (4-9) Tuesday for the NAIA Champions of Character Day, winning 92-69.

MVNU put on a shooting display, hitting 56.9 percent overall (29-51) and 58.6 percent from three (17-29). The Cougars also took advantage of their opportunities at the free throw line, converting 17 of 18 (94.4 percent).
The Cougars had three players score 20 or more points. Brett Vipperman connected on all six of his triple tries for 20 points, and Austin Jones went 5 of 7 from the floor and 9 of 10 at the stripe for a team-high 21 points. Jeremiah Roberts (4-5 3s) had 20 points, and Jevon Knox posted 15 ponts.

Vipperman also collected five assists and three steals, and Jones made two steals. Knox tallied four assists and three rebounds, and Roberts dished out three of the team’s 25 assists.

The Cougars (11-2, 3-2) remain at home as they play Bryant & Stratton College (6-3) Thursday at 7 p.m. at Ariel Arena.
