MOUNT VERNON — The Cougars (9-1, 2-1) were fueled by a huge start to the game to propel them to their second conference victory, 75-51, over Huntington.
MVNU men’s basketball used a 24-5 first half run to jump out to 38-16 lead. The Cougars never looked back, as the Foresters would come as close as 48-39.
MVNU held Huntington to only 17-of-60 (28.3%) shooting, including 5 of 24 (20.8%) from three. The Cougars slowed freshman standout Caleb Middlesworth to two points after entering the game averaging 18.8 points per contest. The Cougars had 18 assists and dominated the boards, 53-35.
Five players scored in double figures for the Cougars, led by Jeremiah Roberts with 15 points and Brett Vipperman with 13 points. Austin Jones and Isaac White each had 11 points, and Jordi Mas collected 10 points.
Vipperman added to his 13 points with 11 rebounds, five assists and two steals; and Roberts contributed seven rebounds and two blocks. Jones grabbed eight boards and blocked two shots, Mas tallied six rebounds and White dished out three assists.
