MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Cantata Choir is in the final stages of preparation for their upcoming performances of “A Song Heard ‘Round the World,” a Christmas cantata by Joseph M. Martin. Over 75 singers from Knox County and surrounding communities will take to the Memorial Theater stage in Mount Vernon Friday, Nov. 30, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. In addition to the choir, several soloists will participate in the festivities.

Percussionist Chris Miller will be accompanying the choir with a variety of percussion instruments that will add an “island” vibe to some of the selections. Chris lives with his family in Mount Vernon and participates in many local theater groups.

Maddy Jones, a fourth-grade student, will be a featured soloist during the Cantata, singing “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands.” Maddy loves theater, sports and piano.

Men’s quartet, David’s Heart, will also be performing. Members Rodney Cheek, Eric Hill, Bryan Potteiger and Tom Graham perform all kinds of vocal music all over Ohio. They will be singing several Christmas and Christian selections.

Performing on handbells will be Pam Gillett. Pam has 30-plus years of experience and has more recently taken on the fun challenge of solo ringing. The Fredericktown resident rings with the Bell Choir at Faith Lutheran Church and directs the Chime Choir at the Fredericktown Presbyterian Church.

Under the direction of Lynn Jurkowitz, this year’s Cantata is a musical melting pot of Christmas music from around the world and conveys a beautiful message of Peace on earth; A perfect way to usher in the Christmas season.

Tickets are available at PakMail at 812 Coshocton Avenue, from any choir member or by calling 740-427-1253.
