COLUMBUS — East Knox and Northmor each earned two places on the state Division VI First Team when it and the Division VII teams were announced Sunday based on a vote by the members of the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association.
Bulldog junior QB Kadden Lester and his top target, junior WR Caleb Gallwitz, were selected on offense, as well as Golden Knights’ junior RB Conor Becker. Northmor senior defensive lineman D’Marcus Hudson was chosen to the defensive First Team.
Lester, at 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, led Mount Vernon News-area quarterbacks with a 205.3 passer rating, completing 110 of 182 throws for 2,378 yards, more than 800 yards more than the second-highest total. He passed for 21 touchdowns against six Interceptions.
Gallwitz (5-10, 175) had nearly 1,000 yards receiving, finishing with 44 catches for 973 yards, a 22.1-yard average. He also ran 30 times for 242 yards and scored 60 points.
Becker (5-11, 170) just missed being the second-straight 2,000-yard rusher for the Knights, rushing 229 times for 1,931 yards (8.4 avg.). He also grabbed 17 passes for 282 yards (16.6 avg.) and led area players with 214 points.
Hudson, despite being just 5-8 and 195 pounds had 102 tackles and four sacks for a team that won its first-ever playoff game before closing out the season with a second-round loss to Fort Frye Nov. 9. He forced two fumbles on the season and recovered two.
East Knox senior RB Kasson Krownapple was selected to the Second Team. Krownapple (6-2, 190) was a red zone terror for the Bulldogs with 200 points. He gained 1,397 yards on 160 carries (8.7 avg.) and had 15 receptions for 342 yards (22.8 avg.)
Two more Bulldogs earned Special Mention, Dawson David and Weston Melick, as well as two more from Northmor, Brandon Planey and Blake Miller. Stephen Schmitt earned the honor for Centerburg and Mason Mollohan from Mount Gilead.
There were no First-Team selections in Division VII, but Cardington junior RB Mason Goers and Danville senior DL Dylan Wilson earned Second Team honors.
Goers (5-9, 170) was third in the area in rushing, gaining 1,456 yards on 236 carries (6.2 avg.), and scored 96 of the Pirates’ 172 total points. He also caught five passes for 84 yards.
Wilson (6-0, 250) had 61 total tackles and a team-high six sacks for the Blue Devils, along with one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Danville WR Corbin Hazen, a 6-1, 197-pound senior, was named to the Third Team. He paced area pass-catchers with 49 receptions for 690 yards (14.1 avg.) and rushed 39 times for 183 yards (4.7 avg.) to finish with 54 points on the season.
The Blue Devils had four more players earn Special Mention, Dalton David, Chris Greenawalt, Alex Holt and Trenton Vernon; and Nick McAvoy and Brandon Steckel were named from Cardington.
Divisions IV and V teams will be announced today, with D II and III teams released Tuesday. Division I teams will be announced Wednesday.
