MOUNT VERNON — A Mount Vernon man has been indicted after allegedly stealing an air compressor and trying to sell it on Facebook.

Alan D. Pelow II, 31, was indicted Monday by the Knox County grand jury on charges of breaking and entering and receiving stolen property, both fifth-degree felonies.

The charges stem from Nov. 16, when a search warrant was served on a 700 block East High Street residence where Pelow and Tia R. Moore, 30, were living. According to the search warrant, Pelow offered an air compressor for sale on Facebook that was reported stolen along with other tools the day before in Morris Township. The owner of the air compressor saw the Facebook post and recognized it as the one stolen from him, according to the warrant.

The interior of the home pictured in the post matched other posts from Moore and Pelow’s residence. Prior to serving the search warrant, adult probation authorities did a home check on Moore and observed tools matching the description of those reported stolen in Morris Township.

During the course of the investigation, Moore was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, Knox County Prosecuting Attorney Chip McConville said. Moore was also indicted by Monday’s grand jury, on one count of aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony.

Also indicted by the Monday grand jury was Jason K. Atkinson, 36, Fredericktown, on one count of rape, a first-degree felony. The charge stems from Nov. 14, 2013, to Nov. 13, 2014, when Atkinson allegedly engaged in oral sex with a girl who would have been seven at the time.

The charge carries a sentence of 15 to life, with the 15 years being the mandatory minimum, McConville said.

The following indictments were also handed down by Monday’s grand jury: Bradlee C. Neitzelt, 27, Danville, on one count of aggravated possession of drugs, a third-degree felony; Alex L. Shoemaker, 33, Mount Vernon, aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony; Dale K. Mertz, 67, Ravenna, compelling prostitution, a third-degree felony; Keith J. Martin, 56, Mount Vernon, aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony; and Jason W. Hogan, 41, Mount Vernon, possession of marijuana, a fifth-degree felony.
