MOUNT VERNON — The Pavilion Sports & Events Complex hosted its first winter indoor youth fastpitch tournament Saturday, and the Ohio Storm ‘08 girls earned the championship of the inaugural 10U Shootout @ The Pavilion.

Facing Central Ohio Pride in the championship game, the Storm scored five runs in the third inning on two triples and four doubles on its way to an 8-3 victory. Whitney Bell struck out 14 in the circle for the win.

The Storm played two pool games, taking down Ohio Sting, 6-0, before a 22-1 shellacking of LC Lightning. Three runs in the first and two in the second helped the Storm over the Sting, and Keely Pollard tossed a no-hitter with six strikeouts. The Storm had two nine-run innings against the Lightning, and Jocelyn Scarbury fanned six in a two-hit victory.

Facing the Sting again in bracket play, Bell pitched the team’s second no-hitter, striking out nine in a 15-0 victory. The Storm led 6-0 after one inning, and 14-0 after two innings, and earned the right to play in the championship game.

For the tournament, the Storm won all four games, scoring 50 runs and allowing five. They had 49 hits, one home run, three triples, 15 doubles and 30 singles, and their pitching struck out 35, walked five and threw two no-hitters.

Hailey Rudrick finished the tournament with a home run, triple, double and five singles; and Bell doubled twice and singled six times. Scarbury smacked a triple, three doubles and three singles; and Abbey Wittman ripped a double and five singles. Bella Evans socked three doubles and two singles; and Maddy Jones and Keely Pollard each doubled twice and singled twice. Arilyn Frazier contributed a double and two singles, Jazzy Wittman tripled and singled and Riley Buttke chipped in with two singles.
