MOUNT VERNON — After some strong performances in the Crossroads League Championships last weekend, the Mount Vernon Nazarene University cross country team received some excellent news regarding three of its runners.

The NAIA Cross Country Nationals field was released, and Justis Paul, Rebecca George, and Makenzie McKirgan each qualified. All three turned in great performances last weekend at Taylor University, as they each received top 15 All-League Honors. Paul placed 13th overall for the men with a time of 27:01.3. For the women, McKirgan and George placed ninth and 11th, with times of 19:06.5 and 19:16.2, respectively.

“Makenzie, Rebecca and Justis have worked hard to earn this opportunity. It is a grind to run the mileage over the summer and manage time during the season to continue to push through the challenges. All three will have the opportunity to run against the best collegiate runners at our level. I’m very proud of the effort, leadership and strength each one has displayed to compete in Cedar Rapids,” said Head Coach Chip Wilson.

The NAIA Cross Country National Championships will be taking place in Cedar Rapids, Iowa Friday. McKirgan and George will run at 10:30 a.m. and Paul will begin his run at 11:30 a.m.
