Joshua Morrison/News Mike Hillier takes the oath of office from Mount Vernon Municipal Court Judge John Thatcher on Tuesday afternoon.

MOUNT VERNON — In a unanimous vote, the Republican Central Committee Monday elected Mike Hillier to fill the Mount Vernon City Council 4th Ward seat vacated by Jeff Gottke.

Only three members of the central committee representing the 4th Ward voted.

The seat was also sought by Scott Pullins and Anderson Rearick, Republican Party Chair Chip McConville said. All candidates spoke before the central committee, McConville said.

Gottke stepped down from the 4th Ward after taking a job with the Knox County Area Development Foundation. The Ohio Ethics Commission determined that the ADF job constitutes a conflict of interest, due to the city making an annual appropriation to the ADF.
