MOUNT VERNON — Robert Bernhard “Bob” Moss, 84, of Mount Vernon went home to his Savior surrounded by family Wednesday evening, Nov. 7, 2018, at the Whispering Hills Care Center in Mount Vernon.

Born in Columbus on Sept. 1, 1934, to the late Clara Marie (Jessing) and Charles Moss, he was a descendent of Msgr. Joseph Jessing, the founder of the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus and a dedicated believer in the Catholic faith and way of life.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra (Dickerson) Moss, in 2013.

Bob was an avid Cleveland Browns fan and lifelong critic. Bob was a HUGE fan of Woody Hayes and THE Ohio State Buckeyes, with many hats to prove it. For many years he was a Redcoat at Ohio State football games and a dedicated servant to passionate football fans whenever possible.

Having worked for Ohio Bell as a payphone change collector, line technician (who despised gloves), and in dispatch, he was also an active member as a Telephone Pioneer charity organization and retired after 39 years of service.

Bob was a passionate member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #847 and the Father John Baptist Lamy Assembly 2970. He was extremely proud of his membership and the many friends he made and those he helped through his participation.

Bob loved his wife Sandra for 58 years; took vacations to Hawaii, Rome and numerous charter bus excursions with friends from the greater Mount Vernon area; he was a little league football coach, an avid watcher of Western movies, and a Santa Claus lookalike who gave big-bear hugs. Grandpa, dad, papaw, Bob, was a big personality with a big smile who was easy to love and hard to forgot.

Bob is survived by his children, Karin (and James) Lee, Tina (and Mark) Carothers, Bob Moss (and Diana McClellan); his grandchildren, Benjamin (and Mary) Lee, Emily Davis, Nathan Lee, Robert Moss, Molly Davis, Kyle Moss; and his great-grandchildren, Grace & Alice Lee, and Lilly Moss.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 12, at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon. The Rosary will be recited and the Knights of Columbus will have a Chalice and Sword presentation following the evening visitation.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Mount Vernon. Burial will follow in St. Luke Catholic Cemetery, Danville.

The family would like extend special thanks to the staff of Whispering Hill Care Center and Kindred Hospice for their exceptional care and dedication to the quality of life for Bob.
